Day 21 (D-40) A short walk in the park/ (Four Corners) / then Durango (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid)
Day 21
I wish we had more time.
I wish there were more than 24 hours in one day.
I wish we could stay longer in Mesa Verde National Park.
But there is so much more to see in other places.
However, before we leave the park, we will take time for an easy short walk.
Soda Canyon Overlook Trail
Here's another google map.

Then we head back east to the town of Durango. A small town with a population of 18475 (2017). https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Durango,+Colorado,+États-Unis/Parc+national+de+Mesa+Verde,+Mesa+Verde,+CO,+États-Unis/@37.2965309,-109.2916917,8z/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x873c02a6bd85fc23:0xdc2b8882a3a67e5a!2m2!1d-107.8800667!2d37.27528!1m5!1m1!1s0x873960bf2ed7711f:0x79f695a21bf61863!2m2!1d-108.4618335!2d37.2308729!3e0
My best,

"Easy hike. This is an easy short walk and once you get to the Canyon edge you can look at the ruins across the canyon. About 2.5 miles return. Take water with you in summer."

When you look at this google map, you can see that we won't be far from Four Corners. It's in this area where the stories of Tony Hillerman take place.
This is a special place in the United States where the four states, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah touch and you can stand in the four states at the same time. Six governments have jurisdictional boundaries at the Four Corners Monument: the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah, as well as the tribal governments of the Navajo Nation and Ute Mountain Tribe.
We won't be going there, because we will be heading northeast. On the google map, can you see the town of Silverton, north of Durango? Silverton will be our destination the following morning after spending the night in Durango.
And do you remember the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid? The “I can’t swim” scene was shot at the Trimble Bridge on the Animas River near Durango, Colorado. Do you remember that scene when they jumped from the rocks high above into the river?
Sorry, no subtitles, but you can understand parts of the conversation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3lhiGXYui8
