The English name Taos derives from the native Taos language meaning "place of red willows".

There will be two places for us to visit: Taos, the town and Taos Pueblo, the Native American village.  Taos Pueblo is also the name of the tribe from which village takes its name.

Taos Pueblo (or Pueblo de Taos) is an ancient pueblo belonging to a Taos-speaking Native American tribe of Puebloan people. Puebloan people. It is about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the modern city of Taos, New Mexico
The Taos Pueblo has been occupied for nearly a millennium. It is estimated that the pueblo was built between 1000 and 1450 A.D., with some later expansion. The Taos Pueblo is considered to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the Southwestern United States, the term Pueblo refers to communities of Native Americans, both in the present and in ancient times.

The Taos community is known for being one of the most private, secretive, and conservative pueblos. Natives will almost never speak of their religious customs to outsiders, and because their language has never been written down, much of the culture remains unknown to the rest of the world. A reservation of 95,000 acres (38,000 ha) is attached to the pueblo, and about 4,500 people live in this area.

We'll also see the "Rio Grande Gorge Bridge", also called the "High Bridge."  It is a steel deck arch bridge that crosses the Rio Grande Gorge 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Taos, New Mexico.  Roughly 600 ft above the Rio Grande, it is the tenth highest bridge in the United States.  Construction started in 1963 and completed in 1965.

Do you remember the 1950 John Ford film, Rio Grande, starring John Wayne?  However, it was filmed in Utah, not Texas or New Mexico!  Here's the trailer of the film. (At a time when John Wayne was "the good guy" and the "Indians" were "the bad guys".  Not politically correct, not acceptable, today.
My best,
Jane
